A look at the best logos in music

The music industry is a very competitive market to get into. With so many artists and bands it’s extremely hard to create a loyal following and gain success over a long period of time. Taking a look at some of my favorite artists and bands it’s very interesting to look at their efforts to brand themselves and how effective it was on me personally.

I remember when I first started getting into music I was in seventh grade and I happened to be going through a rebellious stage in life. This being said I found myself attracted to the hard lyrics and cocky swagger of rap artists like 2pac, Cypress Hill, Biggie Smalls, and especially the fast flowing rap group out of Cleveland, Ohio, Bone Thugs n Harmony. Taking a look at Bone Thugs n Harmony’s career and going back to their first nation-wide album release they have continued to brand themselves using a very distinctive logo. This logo has been used throughout their career on every sequential album release thus strengthening their branding presence in the hip-hop and rap arena. By using a Gothic font the logo makes a bold statement and presents an edgy, rugged feel, which is a perfect match for Bone’s rap style. Other rap groups like Wu-Tang Clan, Outkast, and Run DMC have also been very good examples of branding in the Hip Hop industry. The reason why these logos are good examples of band logos is because the style of the logo reflects the personality of the band thus reinforcing their musical style. This branding technique used by musical artists is a very effective way to create awareness and a loyal fan base.

Throughout history there have been many bands and musical artists who have taken steps toward branding themselves and differentiating themselves within their genre.
